Week 17

Read Aloud
No read aloud this week.

Learning Experience
Although I bogged about the movie Freedom Writers in my last blog, the more we watched, the more I learned from it. Mrs. G was such an amazing teacher who touched the lives of her students in numerous ways. She gave up everything to help these kids who needed it more than anything. She was such an inspiration and I gained a lot of learning experience from watching this film. She taught me not to give up on my students.

Quote Of The Week
"If a child can't learn the way we teach them, maybe we should teach the way they learn."- Ignacio Estrada
There are so many amazing quotes on teaching, and I decided on this one because I feel that it has a lot of meaning behind it. It means to me that if you are teaching something and the kids are either not able to grasp the information, or they don't have momentum to even try to grasp the information you should try teaching them the way that they are able to learn. You have to get to know your students an understand if they are visual, interactive, or whatever type of learner they are. Then you have to learn how to teach them to be an effective teacher. This quote ties in with the movie Freedom Writer because Mrs. G got to know her students and had to learn to teach the way they learn.

Current Event
http://abcnews.go.com/US/tennessee-homecoming-king-nominees-give-crown-teen/story?id=18295338
This current event is about a high school that is known for the support for kids with disabilities that attend the school. When homecoming came around all of the boy nominees all decided that regardless of what the results were that this one kid who had Williams Syndrome would be the winner. He was the type of kid who always made everyone smile and was super friendly. All the nominees were so happy they did this because the winner appreciated the medal and wore i everyday whereas he real winner would just hang it in his room. It was appreciated a lot more and much more deserved. I think this article is an amazing example of what should be done to make everyone at a school feel united, welcome, and happy.

Observations
This week I observed all my classes for the week before the midterm. All the teachers give ending assignments, and cram as much work, test, and study review for the midterm as possible. It is very overwhelming due to the fact that I have so much work to get done in such a short amount of time! I also observed how when teachers assign work that is to be done throughout the marking period, everyone waits until the last second and it becomes stressful!

Reflections
This week I have had an endless amount of work due to midterms. I'm looking foward to when they are over!
