Read Aloud
This weeks read aloud was Money, Money, Honey Bunny by Marilyn Sadler. This book was a good book to teach kids about saving money. It also tied in with moral development such as responsibility. I think this book was be a good book to read to first graders.
Learning Experience
This week we took notes on moral development. I learned a lot about this subject. I learned the three stages and the ages in which each kid normally reaches them. Something I found interesting was that most people never reach the post conventional stage. This subject is something all teachers should know so that they are aware of how their students think and act at that specific age.
Quote Of The Week
This weeks quote is, "Never mistake knowledge for wisdom. One helps you make a living; the other helps you make a life." Written by Sandra Carey. I agree with this quote because knowledge is not the same thing as wisdom. Knowledge is material that you have learned that, yes, will help you make money and a living. Wisdom helps you make a life by thinking from what you already know.

Out of all of the articles dealing with this horrific shooting in Connecticut, this stood out the most. It has to deal with the braveness and selflessness of the teachers. They put the kids entirely before themselves. In a situation like that, it may be hard to act quickly, and very hard to keep everyone safe but yourself. One teacher hid her kids in cabinets while she was left in the open. When this crazy messed up human being broke the door down he was told by the teacher that her kids were in the gym and in a result she was shot multiple times. I don't think anyone will every understand why this guy had the nerve to slaughter little kids. I cant even begin to imagine what could possibly posses him to do this. It is absolutely horrible.
Observations
This week I went to Thompson Middle School and observed a sixth grade history class. I really enjoyed this teacher and his methods of getting the kids interested. He started off with a short funny video that had to do with the subject, then he explained it while he had all the kids attention. Then he made graphic organizer but had the kids tell him what to fill in so they they had knowledge of the subject. I think this teacher was nice and fun which results in the kids enjoying his class and wanting to learn.
Reflections
This week was very busy. All my classes are cramming in information to get in another test before the holidays! Cant wait until Christmas break!!!!

Week 11
Read Aloud
This weeks read aloud was Telling Time with Big Mama Cat by Dan Harper. This book was interactive with kids. It helped them learn about time and routines. The grade it would best be taught to is first. The second read aloud was The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. The are any lessons one could tie in with this book. One is to appreciate what you have. This book demonstrated repetition, emotion, love, and relationships. It would most likely be taught to either a first or second grade class.
Learning Experience
This week there were presentations. Jamie and Julie presented on poverty. I learned a lot about kids struggling with money issues and their home and school life. I learned how a teacher is able to help even if it is in small ways. Then Jenna and Becky presented on eating disorders, and i learned about these diseases and how to help people suffering from this illness.

This current event is about how kids who graduated high school were observed. It was then decided to incorporate more life skills into senior year in this particular high school. For example one thing they added was a pilot program to help seniors learn about time- and money-management skill. These programs are hoped to help kids in their future.
Observations
This week I had the opportunity to go to Leonardo Elementary School to observe a fifth grade class. This was my favorite observation so far. The teacher was so nice! She taught me the most out of all the observations that I went on. The kids in the class were learning division and they were excited to continue the lesson. I was so happy to get to observe how she taught because she made learning fun! All the kids knew the topic and wanted to do the activities with it. She did both group and individual work and she was always there to help the kids. She defiantly is a good teacher to observe because she was nice and her learning method was fun and effective.
Reflections
This week we had a guest speaker from Rider University come in. She didn't only talk about Rider, she talked about her own experiences as a teacher. She was very interesting. She also talked about a fun camp that is free and kids can go their to learn more about subjects. I think it would be a fun and effective camp for people if they have to time for it.

Week 10
Read Aloud
This weeks read aloud was It's Not Easy Being a Bunny by Marilyn Sadler. it was about a bunny who was convinced that being any other animal was better then being a bunny. He tested his theory but in the end came to realize that being himself was the best. I would read this book to a kindergarten class. It teaches kids to have high self esteem. This book could also be used for a science lesson because of all the different animals and their habitats it talks about.

Learning Experience
This week our class did an auction activity. We all had the chance to bid on items that were important to us. It taught us that everyone has different goals, some materialistic, some not. I learned about myself that something that is important in life to me is a happy marriage. I think that being happy is something that is very importnt because without happiness life my not be a positive place.
Current Event
http://www.kpbs.org/news/2012/nov/30/tucson-schools-trying-desegregrate/
This article has to deal with a school in Tuscan, Arizona. They are trying to desegregate its school so that Latinos and African Americans have equal opportunities. Some study programs are banned wich people want to have back to have a better school experience. These people are fighting for desegregation and have a hearing on December 10th.
Quote of the week
"There are many things which we can afford to forget which is yet well to learn."- Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. This quote means to be that information we may think is unless and has no effect if it is easily forgotten, may have many things to learn from. We may think that nothing can be benefited from a certain piece of information, however in the future we may be able to learn from it.
Observations
This week I observed a kindergarten class at Ocean Ave Elementary School. I was so happy and excited because kindergarten is the grade that I want to teach. I learned how this particular teacher handles interruptions and how she helped the students. I also observed her interactions with the students. The kids followed rules which the teacher gave out. I really enjoyed observing and learning from this class.
Reflections
This week I learned about what matters in life to people. I also learned many things on my own from observing the kindergarten class. From my fellow students I learned from their presentations on death and grief, and on depression. I learned how to help kids cope with these issues. This was a successful week.
Auction Questions
What values do the items represent?
The items represent goals that people achieve for in life. Some items were materialistic such as a new house and car while others were to help with careers such as a full ride to any college. The thing that was most important to me was a happy marriage. I think that with that you will be happy and everything else in life can be worked for.
What have you learned about yourself and your classmates?
I have learned about myself that in life ll I want is to be happy. I feel that most of my classmates feel that same way. For example, bidding for a new car is to make the winner happy, and bidding for a full ride to college is to make the bidder happy as well.
Did you stick to the amount you originally bid for?
No I did not. I originally split my money in three ways. However as other people bids were higher then my own I realized that the most important thing to me was a happy marriage and to be happy in life so I saved all my money until that auction.
How did temptations lore us away from our set values?
Some people were tempted by nice cars and houses and spent all their money. The temptation of wanting something materialistic rather than something that will benifit you in life overtook some people.
Explain how to attain these items.
The only way to attain these items is by wanting something enough. Having your mind set and not giving up will also help . Being a hard worker with a positive attitude will help reach any goals in life.

Week 9
Read Aloud
There was no read aloud this week.
Learning Experience
This week was a short week but
Kayla and Lauren presented their project. From their presentation, I learned
how to help kids cope with death and grief. They gave ways that helps kids
understand and overcome this kind of sadness.
Current event
This article talks about how in this area the number
of teachers are being reduced however the number of students in classrooms are
increasing. Due to this increase the classrooms have blended learning. Students
at all different learning abilities are put in the same classroom. I disagree with
this because I think that if someone needs extra help, they should most
certainly get it.
Quote of the week
"The
more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more
places you'll go"- Dr. Seuss. This quote means to me that the more books
you read, the more information you will pick up and in result the more things
you can do in your life. In my childhood I read all the time. I read so much
that teachers even noticed that my grammar and spelling improved as the year
progressed. Therefore this quote overall means that reading helps you with
attaining information, and using the information throughout life.
Observations
This week had a lot of events taking
place for me. For cheerleading we had to do many things in order to prepare for
the North vs. South Homecoming game. We were very behind in our routine.
Therefore our coaches stepped up and helped us finish our routine and had us
practice it until w pulled it all together. I was very grateful for that
because hundreds of people come to this game and I wanted to make sure that we
didn’t mess up. The team didn’t really listen to the captains but when the coaches
enforce the captains rules the rest of the teams listened and our routine came
out good. I observed that if kids need help in something even if they are in
charge, it is okay for the teacher or coach to help out and reinforce things.
Reflections
This was a short week with only one
class however we go time to work on our projects which I am grateful for. We
also made decorations for the hallway contest. This was a short week but we got
something’s
done!
Week 8
Read Aloud
This week Shauna read the book Yes Yes
Yaul! By Jef Czekaj. This as an interesting book that kept the read
involved. For example, when the letters were green, you read fast, and when the
letters are red, you read slowly. This book had a lot of rhymes and rhythms to
it. I think this book would be best taught to a 3rd or 4th grade class, because they are at the reading
ability of this book.
Learning Experience
This week we took a lot
of notes. Notes can get boring but we also discussed them. As we went further
into the subject of ELL students I became interested. I am very happy that I
learned how to teach an ELL student because the chances of having one are high.
Knowing what to do in this situation is very important because he student has
to learn, but there are modified ways.
Current Event
This article deals with bullying. It addresses how
bullying has always been an issue, however in the past years, technology had
increased and so had the bullying percentage. With cyber bullying taking place,
it may seem easier for some people to harass others. Schools are trying to find
as many ways possible to prevent all types of bullying to help ensure the safety
and happiness of the students.
Quote of the Week
The mediocre teacher
tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great
teacher inspires." William Arthur. This quote means to me that having the
knowledge of a subject makes a good, but the way it taught and the
effectiveness of the methods makes the best teacher. Also a teacher who
inspires a student is great mainly because that student looks up to the teacher
as a role model.
Observations
This week
I observed how learning and discussing things in a class circle in multiple
classes keeps the kids interested and interactive. Personally I enjoy being in
a class where you get to put your ideas out and talk about the subject rather
than being talked to by a teacher for 80 minutes straight.
Reflections
This week we took notes
mostly and also got time to work on our books and power points! We also learned
a lot of useful information on ELL students which helps prepare us for the
future!
