Read Aloud
This week I
read I'm the Best by Lucy Cousins. This was a book
that could be used to explain self esteem to younger kids. The grades I would
teach it to would be kindergarten to first grade. There also was rhyming in the
book. The book demonstrates how everyone is good at something and how you
should treat others kindly.
Learning Experience
This week we watched a video on
a kid who had a disorder. In school he was quiet and teachers hardly noticed
him. He ended up dying. In classrooms teachers should recognize students who
may need extra help learning and go out of their way to modify and help these
students. It should never come to the result of death because of neglect of a
student who needs extra help.
Current Event
This article is about a student teacher and how she
learned all of her techniques for helping kids learn. She found that being a co-teacher
is a helpful method. The student teacher learned what not to do from the actual
teacher. She learned that you have to make learning fun in order for kids to
actually y attention and want to learn.
Quote of the week
"Knowing
is not enough, we must apply, willing is not enough, we must do." Goethe.
This quote means to me that just having knowledge of information makes no
difference unless it is applied to learning and teaching. Knowing something is
not enough, but finding out for yourself and applying the information is.
Observations
This week we did an interesting activity. The class was split into two groups
and every person had a word taped to their head. Some words were words such as
“praise me”, but some were “ignore me”. This activity helped us learn how
students may feel ignored neglected or put down. Other students maybe praised too
often. I observed in my classroom many teachers who both praise certain students
very often as well as ignore others. Teachers should act equally among their
students.
Reflections
This week I enjoyed the activity I
mentioned above. This activity helped me to make sure that in the future I
focus on each individual and treat everyone the same.
